Player Guidelines

All of us as coaches and players represent our families, team and our school in all we do in regards to Jefferson Colonial Football. The product we put on the field is a culmination of discipline, hard work and values learned at home and on the practice field. We win as a team and lose as a team, but we represent Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, our football family, the past traditions of this high school, and our own families in all our actions. Take great pride in being a part of this program.

Practice - Be on time. If you are to be late, or absent let your position coach know the reason why. If you are too sick to practice, please try to be there to fully understand the gameplan for the week. Wear TJ football gear if you have it.

Missed PracticesEvery week we prepare for a different opponent, it is vital to be at every practice for game preparation. If you miss a practice during the week, you will do extra conditioning at the next practice. 2 practices missed will result in not starting the game, and your position coach will make the determination when to put you in. More than 3 practices for the week, and you are not physically or mentally prepared for the Friday night contest. Being at practice and not participating is not a missed practice. As a team we count on each other and ourselves to be prepared

Locker Room - The locker room facilities will be the new Team room. Get IN / Get OUT. No HorsePlay / Socializing. You are there to change. You will need to have a combination lock to store your gear.  The Team  room will be open in the am before school if you need to drop it off.

*ABSOLUTELY NO HAZING OF ANY KIND WILL BE TOLERATED IN THIS PROGRAM! PERIOD. If we find out about any incidents, those players will be released.

Game Days- it is an FCPS regulation that you attend school for the entire day on game days. Exceptions include a note from parents/doctors if you are to miss any part of the day. You must email the athletic department and notify the office of any excused absence from the school day.

Unexcused absence on Game Day is automatically a no play scenario.

Saturday AM - We will meet as a team every Saturday during the season(Varsity only) @ 9am. We understand if you have family commitments, college visits, SAT’s etc.. Let the coaches know in advance if you will miss. Saturdays are for lifting, bleacher steps for conditioning, and film study. You will be done by 10:30am. Coaches will be prepping and breaking down our next opponent.

Personal Conduct - In general, Jefferson Football players are one of the public faces of the Jefferson community.  They are looked at as leaders and representatives of our school whether on the field, in the hallways, or in the community.  Players must understand this fact and act appropriately at all times.  Any behavior deemed detrimental to the reputation of the school, coaches, and/or program will be dealt with by the coaching staff.

Content posted on social media accounts is treated as if it were spoken in public and falls under the previous paragraph.  Players should not post, “retweet”, or “favorite” inappropriate content on any social media outlet, and any material regarding the football program should be positive.
