FAQ: 2017-18 Freshman

If you are an incoming freshman and interested in playing field hockey.. awesome! You are in the right place. Please visit the files page for more information about our program. The schedule and other information is subject to change so stay up-to-date by following us on Twitter @TJFieldHockey.

Q: When are tryouts? Am I required to attend all of tryouts?
A: Tryouts are August 1st - August 4th. Yes freshman players are required to attend all of tryouts.

Q: My parents and I didn't know that fall sports begin before school and I will be out of town at some point during August. Could I still tryout?
A: Yes. If this is the case please email Coach Aubrey at aubreylear13 [at] immediately to discuss. Please note however that this is an exception for Freshman only. Returning players are aware of the program policies and should not miss time during the season. Missed time can effect team placement.

Q: I've never played before is that okay?
A: Absolutely! No playing experience is necessary.

Q: I don't have any gear, can I still attend green days/workouts/tryouts?
A: Yes. Players will not be required to purchase gear until after tryouts. Coaches will have sticks and other equipment available for use.

Q: I think I might be interested in playing goalie. What type of equipment do I need?
A: In short, just a mouth guard. Goaltenders have specialized and expensive equipment all of which (except the mouthguard) is provided by the school. Goalies are allowed to buy or use their own as long as it meets VHSL and USA Field Hockey regulations.

Q: What's being on the field hockey team like?
A: Amazing! Many freshman love playing field hockey because they get to make new friends and connect with their school prior to the start of classes. Practices and games will be challenging but being a part of the TJ Field Hockey program is incredibly rewarding.

We would love to have you join our team! Email Coach Aubrey for more information and follow us on Twitter to stay up to date! @TJFieldHockey
